Jyoti Khare

Jyoti was born in 1965 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh but at an early age, her family moved to the Ashram in Pondicherry, where she had thefortune of growing-up, being guided and mentored by the early disciples of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo. She is a self-taught artist. “I did not have a formal training in art and on the whole, I do consider my art as a long and personal journey of inner and outer exploration within the quiet atmosphere of my studio.” Although in the past she has extensively painted on silk, presently she works primarily with watercolours. She likes to explore transparency and layering in an attempt to infuse her work with that which she perceives to be behind it. In 2012 she held a solo exhibition that consisted of a combination of painting and collage using dress material that The Mother had worn For the past 20 years or so, she has been engaged with Nandanam Kindergarten where she shares her love of art with the children and is nourished by their boundless creativity. Consequently, Jyoti has written and illustrated a number of children’s books
